This isn't a complete list, but here are a few examples of how beneficial floating can be:


Relaxation Response

The float tank slows down our fight-or-flight response, and activates our parasympathetic nervous system in charge of relaxation and healing. This relaxation response reduces blood pressure and stress hormones while increasing endorphins. 

Pain Relief

This is the main reason we opened Driftaway.  Pain affects almost everyone around us in some way. The zero stress, low gravity environment of a float tank takes pressure off joints and has been reported to provide relief from low back pain, arthritis, and even fibromyalgia. 

Stress Relief & Anxiety

The Relaxation Response lets our nervous system take a breather. We are constantly bombarded with stimuli throughout the day and our brains are not wired to deal with it all. Floating  is the perfect  break from that struggle. Current float research is showing that floating causes the brain to react in a way that is similar to anti-anxiety drugs. 


It turns out that the majority of Americans are deficient in Mg. While in the tank, your body absorbs some of the epsom salts which are magnesium sulfate.  Magnesium is involved with detoxification, can prevent cardiovascular disease, and can regulate high blood pressure. 


Once again the Relaxation Response proves to be extremely valuable.  More and more soldiers are starting to use floating to cope with their PTSD. It's helping so much that some are reducing the amount of medications they take. Check out this Time article for more information.
